Contract agreements with Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC are anticipated by UAW President Ron Gettelfinger. These follow the pattern set with General Motors.
New officers will negotiate to the UAW contract. Ford’s present CEO is Alan Mulally while Bob Nardelli handles the Chrysler.
“We expect this will basically be the same agreement we’ll get at the other companies. There’s some modification, but for the most part, it will be a pattern agreement,” Gettelfinger said while interviewed in WJR-AM radio in
General Motors and Ford discussed in 2005 about health care concession but Chrysler was not able to acquire the midcontract. DaimlerChrysler AG settled to make Chrysler for sale after a few months.
The spokespersons of Chrysler and Ford said that they had not yet heard from the union but still they wait which automaker will be the next to make a new contract with UAW.
According to Ford’s representative Marcey Evans, “The decision is totally up to the union.”
The UAW President said that he will discuss the situation with his top officials and expects fast negotiations with the other two companies.
“There’s no reason at this point why we can’t get both of those done at the same time. If we run into difficulty at one or the other, then we’ll make a decision. I would hope we could do that. I’m not saying that’s what we will do.” Gettelfinger said.
